CECILIA FOREST
With its scenic trails, lush vegetation, and picturesque views of Table Mountain, it’s no wonder this forest is such a popular destination for hiking, picnicking, mountain biking and trail running! With its tranquil atmosphere, stunning vistas, and diverse range of flora and fauna, including indigenous trees, birds, and small mammals, the forest is a haven for nature lovers and birdwatchers. The trails can also be accessed via the Constantia Nek parking lot, which has a delicious coffee truck and a fruit and veg stall that sells some of the freshest local produce directly from farms in the area.
NEWLANDS FOREST
This place can only be described as South Africa’s own fantasy forest! It offers you a chance to explore a lush forest, meandering streams, and stunning views of the city and the ocean beyond. The multiple trails wind through a dense canopy of indigenous trees and shrubs, with several picnic areas along the way where hikers can take a break and enjoy the scenery. The route is well-marked and suitable for hikers of all levels, but it can be challenging in places with steep inclines and uneven terrain. The hike is also popular with trail runners and dog walkers, so expect to see plenty of four-legged friends on the way!

ELEPHANTS EYE
The hike to Elephant’s Eye is a beautiful trail located in the Silvermine Nature Reserve. The trail offers stunning views of the surrounding mountains and forests, and it takes about 2-3 hours to complete. The trail starts at the entrance of the reserve and follows a well-marked path through a forested area. Early morning light from the Cave is a truly memorable sight and makes for an unbelievable photo.
BOOMSLANG CAVE HIKE (KALK BAY)
The hike is named after the venomous Boomslang snake, which can be found in the area, although, no need to worry, the popularity of this hike makes sightings extremely rare. The trail is well-marked and relatively easy, with a slightly steep section in the beginning and slightly uneven terrain. For those hikers looking for a little bit more of an adventure, they can explore the caves at the top of the mountain. Home to a few bats, but don’t worry they won’t bother you if you don’t bother them.

SILVERMINE DAM
The hike takes you through fynbos-covered slopes, rugged cliffs, and pristine mountain streams; it’s a nature lover’s paradise. The trail is well-maintained and clearly marked, making it accessible for hikers of all levels. The highlight of the hike is the panoramic views of the surrounding mountains and ocean. If you’re not in the mood for a hike, the dam is the perfect place to set a picnic for the day with the family, bring floaties!
KLOOF CORNER
Probably one of the busiest trails during summer sunrises and sunsets, simply because it might possibly be the easier hike Cape Town has to offer. This hike shouldn’t take more than 45 minutes to get to the top. Along the way, hikers are treated to breathtaking panoramic views of Cape Town, including the iconic Table Bay, the bustling city center, and the vast expanse of the Atlantic Ocean. This is the perfect spot for sunrise coffee or sunset champagne!

OPPELSKOP HIKE
A short two-hour trail around the bottom of Devil’s Peak. Now she may be short, but she is the gift that keeps on giving as you’ll be rewarded with magnificent panoramic views of the city! It’s perfect for beginners since there is no scrambling involved and only a short steep incline in the beginning, honestly if you walk slow enough you won’t even break a sweat. This is also a popular dog walking trail, so expect many furry friends.
LITTLE LION'S HEAD
Put on those hiking boots for this short and sweet trail, which offers a 360 view of Llandudno, Hout Bay and the ocean at the top. The hike takes place on Klein Leeukoppie, a private property in Hout Bay – just ring the bell at the gate for entry. Although short and sweet, a tiny bit of technical scrambling is thrown in the mix at the end, but as with anything, do it with confidence and you’ll be fine! Highly recommend this hike for a quick outdoor fix and a bit of a technical challenge.

CHAPMAN'S PEAK
Now, this is a hike you want to experience, it will leave you breathless any time of the day. The trail winds its way along the mountain’s edge, leading you through beautiful fynbos. If you’re lucky enough to go during flower season, you’ll be spoiled for days with endless colors! The hike is a moderate challenge, with some steep climbs and rocky terrain, but certainly no Devil’s Peak. The peak itself stands at over 500 meters above sea level, and on a good day, you’ll be able to see for km’s on end, with Hout Bay nestled to your right.
WOODSTOCK CAVES
The Woodstock Caves hike is a beautiful trail that offers stunning views of the surrounding mountains and city. The trail is well-maintained and not too challenging, and easily accessible from the city, making it an ideal hike. Begin at the same starting point as the Devil’s Peak Hiking Trail. After the first climb, the trail forks. Take your first left & follow the Contour Trail (running parallel to the tar road below) for a few kilometers before heading up the next climb to the caves. Great sunrise coffee spot!
